The MacArthur 100+ foundation competition is the most significant initiative in philanthropic funding ever - it is simply to define a problem of global significance and a solution. The winner receives $100 million over 4 years.
There is no problem of such significance as runaway climate change. Other than what we propose, there are no solutions.
The COP agreements on their own are too little and too late. Furthermore the increasing competition that climate change causes makes the co-operation needed to achieve the hugely ambitious zero carbon global economy impossible. In this context, these proposals do not risk the political drive towards a zero carbon economy, but are an essential part of it.
